Vintage Altered Vietnam War 2nd Pattern OG-107 Utility Shirt Size: 13.5 x 31

This is a vintage 2rd pattern U.S. Army OG-107 cotton sateen shirt in a size 13.5 x 31 (see measurements). It is in used, very good condition. There is a small brown stain on the right breast pocket (pictured). Otherwise, it looks like it was barely used. The OG-107 color is very strong and retains its original sheen.

This is a very unique OG-107 field shirt! The 2nd pattern is the rarest of the patterns. It was only issued for a couple of years before being superseded by the 3rd pattern in early 1965. This shirt has flaps for cinching the cuffs. These are an odd addition; most 2nd pattern shirts, like the 1st pattern, only had straight cuffs with no adjustment. Looking at the stitching, the cuffs look like they were an original part of the uniform and not an addition. The shirt was altered at the shoulders and seams are present at the upper back. Lastly, the name tape isn't stitched or ink stamped. It was hand written with a black laundry pen!

The U.S. Army started issuing the OG-107 sateen utilities in 1952 as a replacement for World War II and Korean War era Herringbone Twill utilities. In spite of their now dated appearance, the OG-107 fatigues were some of the most successful uniforms ever issued by the U.S. Army, having served in its various iterations until the mid-1980's. While they were not ideal for the climate in Vietnam, the cotton sateen uniform served well as a rugged and comfortable uniform (when not constantly starched) for duty Stateside and in Europe. The 2nd pattern uniform would have been a fairly common sight early during the Vietnam War.
