M-1967 Canteen Cover w/ Plastic Snaps

$33.25

This is a genuine G.I. M-1967 canteen cover with plastic snaps. It is in used, very good condition. It is slightly scuffed, but the color is very strong and there are no holes. This is the classic Vietnam War M-1967 canteen pouch It is dated 1969.

The M-1967 canteen covers were actually issued as a design separate from the M-1967 series starting in 1968. Seeking lightweight, jungle rot resistant items, the U.S. Army started issuing nylon field gear items in piecemeal fashion concurrently with the canvas M-1956 gear. The most well known example is the nylon 2-quart canteen cover. Initially, this issue was limited to the Vietnam theater of operations which had the most urgent need. These canteen carriers actually saw very widespread use late in the war and they are a very common sight among the infantryman's field gear from 1969 onward, even though they never quite replaced the canvas canteen pouches. The M-1967 canteen pouches remained in issue as an equivalent item to the later LC series covers through the 1980's.
