This is a Vietnam War era M-1936 pistol belt in used, good condition. The OD color is still strong. All of the grommets are present. The U.S. and quartermaster stamp are still legible. It is a size Medium and it has a DSA 100 stamp, making it a very late production version of the M-1936 belt.
The M-1936 pistol belt was meant for soldiers carrying an M-1911 pistol as a sidearm. The button on the left side was specifically meant for the purpose made M-1911 magazine pouch which slid over the belt and had its own male side push stud to secure the pouch to the belt. In WWII, U.S. Army soldiers whose primary weapon was not a rifle would have worn this belt in lieu of the standard issue M-1923 cartridge belt. The pistol belt provides more "real estate" for the carrying of M-1 carbine magazine pouches or M-1 Thompson SMG pouches, as well as compass pouches and canteens.
