This is an M-1923 cartridge belt in OD #7. It is in used, very good condition. There is some wear to the hardware, but it is minimal. There are no tears or rust stains. The OD #7 is dark. It appears as though a lacquer was applied to the hardware to keep it dark for inspection. The manufacturer's date and the U.S. stamp are not legible, however the "lift-the-dot" fasteners have the anchor stamp which was from a U.S. contractor. This belt does not have the internal stripper clip retaining straps.
OD #7 started to replace the OD #3 khaki gear in late 1943. Due to the massive stocks of OD #3, its issuance was haphazard and it never entirely replaced the latter color until after the end of WWII.
Genuine cartridge belts are becoming very hard to find! They were once sold in giant bins for pocket change in surplus stores and they were used to equip the backyard adventures of young boys. Now, M-1923 cartridge belts that are in usable condition are genuine collector's items and are at the core of every WWII collection.
