This is the iconic, black M-1916 style holster for the M-1911 pistol. This holster is a genuine G.I. holster manufactured by NORDAC MFG. Depending on the reference, NORDAC was either a Vietnam War era manufacturer, or a post war manufacturer. This holster includes the leather belt hanger. The holster was coated with a gloss lacquer in order to maintain a permanently shined appearance. This indicates that the holster was either used by MP's on guard duty or for ceremonial duties.
Although obsolete and passe by today's tactical standards, there is still nothing quite like the look of an M-1911 in its leather holster on a web belt. It served our fighting men well for 80 years and was one of the enduring symbols of the American soldier of the 20th Century.
