For your consideration is a three color summer weight Desert Camouflage Uniform (DCU) jacket in size Large/Regular. It is marked with a U.S. Marine Corps Eagle Globe and Anchor stencil. The jacket is in used, very good condition. There are no holes or tears and the color is strong.
The three color DCU replaced the five color "chocolate chip" Desert Battle Dress Uniform (DBDU) in the early 1990's, shortly after Desert Storm. The DBDU was designed in the 1970's for use in the more rugged and complex terrain of the Sinai Desert, where it was envisioned that American soldiers might fight in the Middle East. Therefore, the color scheme was considered unsuitable for the open deserts of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. A simpler pattern using open desert hues was developed into the DCU.
This is an early pattern summer weight jacket. It is dated 1997 and still has the infamous large "Elvis Collars" which was an anachronism carried over from earlier desert uniform contracts but had long since been abandoned in the BDU.
A note for the collector; remember, there was once a time when WWII HBT uniforms and Vietnam jungle fatigues were considered "common surplus". The time to invest in your future collection is now!
