This is a set of vintage, heavyweight German military style wool field trousers in size 34" x 31". They are in used, fair condition. The crotch has an amateur repair and there are mothing holes (pictured). The waist is discolored from field use and the right cuff is fraying (pictured). Nevertheless, these are very heavy duty pants with lots of life left in them. Many of these deficiencies can be addressed by a competent seamstress.
These pants are modeled after the U.S. Military M-1951 field pants, but are made of a thick and extremely warm wool. They feature two front slash pockets with button down covers, two rear pockets with button down covers and two large side cargo pockets with three buttons. Like their American counterparts, the cargo pockets have web tapes that can be looped through the pockets and tied around the thighs. The pants have a double knee. Unlike American field and BDU pants, there is an internal button allowing the trouser cuffs to be tightened against a boot. There are waist adjustment tabs and interior loops within the waist to support the use of suspenders.
These types of trousers set the standard for heavyweight wool outdoors and hunting pants in the 1960's! They are extremely well constructed and durable. Heavy, high quality wool winter trousers are very hard to come by these days. Most wool field pants available in surplus stores these days are cheap wool blends that will not stand up to years of field use.
