This is a very nice GI issue nylon duffel bag. It is in used, good condition and dated 2001. There are no holes or frayed areas. One of the anchor points for a should strap is coming un-stitched (pictured). The bottom was marked by its original owner per unit SOP for deployment during the GWOT years.
In the 1970's the U.S. Military started adding shoulder straps to its issue duffle bags. While this ruined the romantic image of the fighting man with his overseas bag hoisted up over his shoulder, it did make the GI duffle bag much easier to manage. Within a few years of introducing shoulder straps, the bags were made out of a heavy cordura type nylon. Furthermore, the interior of the bag was coated with a water repellant material. While these shouldn't be considered fully waterproof, they are significantly better at keeping the contents dry than the old canvas duffle bags.
