This is an M-1923 cartridge belt in OD #3. It is in heavily used, fair condition. It is faded and stained. Some of the hardware has verdigris from age. The internal pocket straps were removed a long time ago, which was a logical alteration to make it easier to access the ammunition clips. One of the "Lift-the-Dot" fasteners is coming loose from the canvas. Unfortunately this is common with well used belts of this age. The U.S. stamp is still clearly legible. The maker's stamp is present but the date is difficult to read. This belt is either dated 1941 or 1942.
This belt would be ideal for a salty display! I would be very careful with the pocket with the fastener that is tearing free from the canvas.
Genuine cartridge belts are becoming very hard to find! They were once sold in giant bins for pocket change in surplus stores and they were used to equip the backyard adventures of young boys. Now, M-1923 cartridge belts that are in usable condition are genuine collector's items and are at the core of every WWII collection.
